Flexible Frequency Control with FrequencyFlex

The Pathfinder PLS® features FrequencyFlex™, enabling users to tailor locating frequencies to site-specific needs. Multiple active frequencies allow accurate tracking with minimal interference—even past faults or around conduit bends. A suite of passive locating options— including 50 Hz, 60 Hz, radio frequency, cathodic protection rectifier, and CATV—enables detection of energized lines without a transmitter.

Enhanced Transmitter Performance

The Pathfinder PLS® transmitter includes advanced features like improved induction performance, multi-frequency coupled induction (8 kHz–118 kHz), and automatic impedance matching for optimal direct connection. Available in 5-watt or 10-watt configurations, the transmitter can simultaneously apply two frequencies, allowing users to energize both main and secondary lines from a single setting. All controls are accessed via a weatherproof membrane keypad, with audible feedback confirming input and status.

Intelligent Receiver Design

The ergonomically balanced Pathfinder PLS® receiver offers push-button depth measurements up to 25 feet and real-time current readouts, helping to identify target utilities in congested easements. Operators receive clear proximity guidance through peak or null audio tones, while the high-contrast backlit display shows both relative and absolute signal strength.

Optional Fault Locating with A-Frame GRP

With the optional A-Frame Ground Return Probe, the Pathfinder PLS® can be used to pinpoint ground faults. As the user approaches a fault, the signal strength peaks; when directly over the fault, the system provides a distinctive null response, confirming the precise location.

Pinch and Blockage Detection with Sondes

Compatible with Rycom Sondes (512 Hz, 640 Hz, 815 Hz, 8 kHz, 33 kHz), the Pathfinder PLS® can trace Sondes through non-pressurized conduits to locate pinches, collapses, or blockages. Capable of detecting signals up to 25 feet in air and 10 feet in cast iron, the system ensures reliable sonde tracking in various environments.
